The first real touch of adrenaline. Where Dolné diery end with a comfortable stroll, Nové diery are just beginning with a steep ascent into the depths of a narrow canyon. The perfect challenge for those who want to take their hiking to the next level.
If you turn onto the one-way green trail at the Ostrvné junction, you are in for an ascent alongside a roaring stream within an increasingly narrowing ravine. Several smaller metal ladders and footbridges will lead you to a very tight gorge, carved over centuries by the rushing water. What awaits you is a relatively short but intense taste of the best that Jánošíkove diery have to offer.
A continuous series of ladders and narrow footbridges suspended over roaring waterfalls is an unforgettable experience . Deep inside the enclosed ravine, the sky is barely visible and you may need to duck at times . Your pulse quickens with the steep ascent and the rush of cascading mountain water right beneath your feet.
Past the final waterfall and the last steel ladder, you arrive at the Nové diery trail junction. The humid, shaded canyon gives way to a steeper climb over natural stone steps and exposed tree roots, leading you high above the gorge.
The reward for your climb is panoramic vistas from secured rock ledges overlooking the forested valleys of Malá Fatra. After the viewpoints, the trail begins a gentle, pleasant downhill descent through the forest directly towards the wooden huts on the Podžiar meadow.
Before heading out, review the exact route details. The hike begins right at Hotel Diery in the Biely Potok settlement, passes the Ostrvné junction, climbs through the Nové diery gorge, and concludes at the Podžiar junction. The entire loop can be completed at a comfortable pace in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
